BONUS- IMPORTANT REGISTRATION/TRYOUT INFORMATION ALL SOCCER PARENTS SHOULD KNOW

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION/TRYOUT INFORMATION ALL PARENTS SHOULD KNOW

Tryouts start towards the end of the Spring season and usually Soccer Tryout dates will begin to be announced in May, with most occurring the week after the season ends (usually 2-3rd week of June).  With more teams and leagues competing for players, a new trend has started in Long Island Youth Soccer where some teams are offering tryouts earlier in the Spring season.  Most leagues require teams to register with a minimum number of players by the beginning of July.  This does not mean that you cannot change teams after July, but you will find your options limited.  Most leagues close down a team’s ability to add a new player by the middle of the Fall or Spring season.  *If you register with one team for the season, you CAN NOT register for a different team later in the season, you will have to wait until the next season to play.*  In addition, most players change teams in the summer and there are no additional costs to the parent.  If you and your child choose to move teams between the Fall and Spring season, there can be fees of $100 or more that the parent must pay in addition to the registration and training costs.  Many teams have also begun to offer “Open Practices” which is a way to allow your child to attend a few practices with a soccer team you are considering a move to.  I like the open practice because it allows the child, parent, and prospective coach the opportunity to get a better idea of the chemistry of the team, the parents on the sideline, and the training style as well as your child’s response to the training style of the Coaches and trainers.
